In our home, these roasted sweet potatoes have become a mainstay. My infant son adores these. She would disregard everything on her plate and request an additional dish of these sweet potatoes.
And this mother is fine with that. With so much fiber and potassium, sweet potatoes are incredibly nourishing. The sweet potatoes with the richest beta-carotene and vitamin A content have orange flesh. They have fewer calories than normal potatoes as well.
Roasting these wonderful sweet potatoes is one of the greatest ways to prepare them. They become naturally sweeter when roasted. I adore making these simple side dishes in my air fryer. Compared to turning on the oven, it is so much more convenient.
Using the quick pot, I also enjoy steaming them. In all honesty, we have been savoring sweet potatoes in every way. They now come with every grocery order.
Which Sweet Potato to Use for Roasting?
Sweet potatoes come in a huge variety, and they don’t all have the same flavor or texture.
Sweet potatoes with orange skin have been my favorite to roast. They are creamy, sweet, and juicy. I’m using Garnet sweet potatoes today.
Choose potatoes that are firm and free of many bruising or discolorations. Stay away from those that are softer. Keep them somewhere cool, dry, dark, and well-ventilated.
How to Cut Sweet Potatoes for Roasting?
I advise cutting the sweet potato into 12 inch chunks because we will be roasting the cubes for this specific recipe.
They can be divided into fries or wedges as well. The thickness and size affect the cooking time.
Peel and wash the sweet potato first. Using a peeler makes peeling the skin simpler.
If you purchase organic products, you can forgo peeling them. The peeled variety is preferred by my family.
A sharp chef’s knife is recommended for cutting sweet potatoes. They may be stiff and challenging to cut.
Depending on the length of the sweet potato, split it in half or three pieces after peeling.
Please place one portion on the cutting board vertically. Then make the incisions you see in the image above. The slices should be roughly 12 inch thick.
Try to maintain uniformity in cube size.
How to Roast Sweet Potatoes in the Air Fryer?
For these sweet potatoes, a little salt and pepper goes a long way. To keep things straightforward, I prefer to toss the cubes with some avocado or olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly to evenly distribute the oil and seasoning over the sweet potatoes.
Let’s discuss heating up the air fryer. Both ways that I have prepared these—with preheating and without—work great. To produce the ideal roasted sweet potatoes without preheating, it takes a few additional minutes.
Put the sweet potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
For this recipe, I used my Instant Vortex air fryer. I heated the air fryer to 400°F because it offers a preheat option.
After preheating, this air fryer prompts you to add the food. It then prompts you to turn or shake the food. I think that’s a wonderful small feature.
To achieve the ideal texture, air fry for 10 to 12 minutes. At around six minutes, shake the basket.
Add a few more minutes if you prefer them to be crunchier.
Since an air fryer cooks food in half the time as an oven, I prefer to use one on regular days and for little quantities.
For the infant, I cut them into even smaller pieces and air fry them for 8 to 10 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 425°F and cook for about 30 minutes if you wish to cook in it. To ensure consistent cooking, turn the sweet potatoes every 10-15 minutes.
Pro-tips
Avoid packing the air fryer too full. Make batches of food.
They don’t need to be boiled before roasting. Yay!
As they cool, they become softer, so serve them right away.
How long does it take to cook sweet potatoes in an air fryer?
What is the optimum time and temperature for an air fryer to cook sweet potatoes? I like to cook these sweet potato cubes in the air fryer for 8 minutes before shaking the basket to slightly stir them. After 6-7 minutes, check to see if they are done and, if required, extend the cooking time. After 15 minutes, they’re usually crispy and tender!

FAQs about Air Fryer Sweet Potato Chunks
Do you have to soak sweet potatoes in water before air frying?
The sweet potatoes can be given a crispier, french-fry texture by soaking them to remove some of their starch. However, I don’t believe it will be necessary with these potatoes because they have more of a roasted potato feel and still have their beloved crispy edges in addition to their starchiness.
Where do you put the oil in an air fryer?
You don’t have to because an air fryer can crisp up your favorite dishes without using any oil. Although it’s not absolutely necessary, you can choose to add oil to your sweet potatoes before cooking them in order to increase their crispiness.
How do I store these air fryer sweet potato cubes?
Your air-fried sweet potatoes can keep for up to 4 days in the refrigerator if they are stored in an airtight container. They should be heated through in the air fryer for approximately 5 minutes at 375°F.
