INGREDIENTS
For the greatest ever crispy potatoes, you just need a few basic items. I’m sticking with a basic seasoning blend, but feel free to pick your favorite.
Potatoes: Large or tiny potatoes weighing one pound. Choose potatoes that are spotless and clean because we won’t be peeling the skin.
2 tablespoons of either butter or oil. To keep the dish vegan, use vegan butter or plant-based butter.
Seasoning: 7-8 smashed garlic cloves, smoked paprika, 1/8 teaspoon, Kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper.
Optional garnishes include dried thyme or parsley, sea salt crystals, fresh chives, chili lime spice, nutritional yeast, parmesan cheese, or any other seasoning of your choice.
HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER SMASHED POTATOES?
The potatoes should be washed and scrubbed, then dried with paper towels.
On the stove, boil the potatoes. You can also prepare them in an Instant Pot. Put the potatoes in the pressure cooker or Instant Pot with enough water at the bottom of the pan or steamer basket. The potatoes should be pressure cooked for five minutes before a natural pressure release.
Place them on the cookie sheet after they have cooled. Use a glass or a potato masher to gently crush the potatoes. Apply the proper pressure so that the potatoes flatten but do not crumble.
In a bowl, whisk together the butter/oil, smoked paprika, smashed garlic, ground pepper, and salt to make the basting butter/oil mixture.
Potatoes should be placed in a single layer on a rack or basket for an air fryer, with enough space between each one to prevent stacking. Work in groups if necessary.
Depending on the size of your potatoes, cook at 400 degrees for 12 minutes, turning after around 8 minutes.
BAKING SMASHED POTATOES IN THE OVEN
Don’t worry if you don’t have an air fryer. These crispy potatoes can also be prepared in an oven.
Follow the instructions in steps 1-4 above to prepare the potatoes. Potatoes should be baked for 25 to 30 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
If using an instant pot, use the crisp or air fryer lid.
Put a single layer of seasoned and ready-to-eat mashed potatoes on the basket. Put the trivet on top of the basket.
Use the air fryer lid to close and cover the Instant Pot. (Or a tight lid) The potatoes should be air fried for 15 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit or until they become crispy and begin to turn golden brown.
HOW TO STORE THE LEFTOVERS?
In the refrigerator, potatoes can be preserved for up to five days. Simply wrap them in foil or place them in an airtight container to protect them. Then, simply reheat them in the oven for 5-7 minutes whenever you want to eat them. However, I am rather certain that there won’t be any leftovers. The potatoes that have been mashed should not be frozen.
PRO TIPS
Utilize fresh, high-quality, organic potatoes.
Before using the potatoes in the recipe, make sure to give them a thorough wash. You will consume the skin as well because we won’t be peeling them.
The potato skin should not be peeled. When roasted, it gives them a crunchy texture and aids in keeping them together.
Use potatoes that are tiny or medium in size. They work well for little appetizers since they are simpler to crisp.
It is always preferable to select potatoes that are of a comparable size so that they cook all at once and are thoroughly cooked.
Before placing the potatoes in the oven or air fryer, don’t forget to season them with kosher salt and black pepper.
SERVING IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS
